Rene Barbier Tempranillo-Merlot 75cl 2015 Penedes - Spain
Grape Variety : 55% Tempranillo - 45% Merlot
Winemaking : We have made two styles of wine from the Tempranillo grapes . The first was made by carbonic maceration, in wich whole bunches macerate and ferment at the same time at a temperature of 25°C for 3 to 4 days . Before the fermentation is f inished, we separate the juice f rom the solid grape matter , which we then press to extract a juice with more colour , more aroma and more sugar . These two element s are then blended together in proportions which the winemaker s consider to be appropriate, and the fermentat ion is then completed without any further skin contact , at 25°C. The second Tempranillo is made from de-stalked grapes which are macerated for 6 days at 25-28°C, with regular pumping over , to extract the maximum colour (anthocyanins ) , without delivering excessive tannins . The Merlot is de-stalked and macerated for 4-5 days at 25°C, during which time we carefully pump the juice back over the cap of skins , to create a young red wine in which the primary fresh fruit aromas stand out .
Ageing : Young red wine, with a touch of oak.
Colour: Br ight , qui te ful l , cher ry red, wi th the character i s t ic violet r im of youth. Nose: Good aromatic complexity, vibrant fruit (cherry, bramble) over a spicy background. Palate: The pa l a t e too i s jui c i l y f rui t y, but wi th good s t ruc tur e and a f ine f reshnes s f rom the balanced acidi ty.
