The St.Bernardus Abt 12 33cl is the pride of our stable, the nec plus ultra of our brewery. Abbey ale brewed in the classic 'Quadrupel' style of Belgium's best Abbey Ales. Dark with a full, ivory-colored head. It has a fruity aroma, full of complex flavours and excells because of its long bittersweet finish with a hoppy bite. (10,0% ABV) Worldwide seen as one of the best beers in the world. It's a very balanced beer, with a full-bodied taste and a perfect equilibrium between malty, bitter and sweet. One of the original recipes from the days of license-brewing for the Trappist monks of Westvleteren Deep brown when poured but against light is a deep opaque orange color. Head pours thick and recedes to a thin off white film that lasts throughout the quaff. Lacing seems thick at first but slips down the glass gradually. The smell is lightly fried hash browns/potatos with a touch of roasted nuts. A sugary sweetness breaks through eventually revealing maltier undertones. Figs and walnuts. The taste follows the nose except the sweet character is noticed ahead of the earthy tones. Some raw nuts and fall time bread flavors are evident. Theres a spicy tinge I can't quite place. The taste on the back of the palate reminds me of a very smooth and earthy Yunnan tea. M: Smooth and wholesome. Again, like a luscious Yunnan Gold black tea variety.
