Syrah red J.Moreau & Fils 75cl Vin de Pays d'Oc

HISTORY : Also known as Schiras , Marsanne Noire or Serine , the exact origins of the Syrah varietal are unknown even though many theories have been put forward. Some say it may have been introduced in the 13th century by the Chevalier de Sterimberg who settled in the northern Côtes du Rhône. Others take its origins back to the 3rd century AD, when the Emperor Probus authorised viticulture in Gaul. A third theory has it coming from Syracuse in Sicily. Today, however, Syrah is not grown in any of its supposed regions of origin. It is the king varietal of the northern Côtes du Rhône, though its cultivation has recently spread to more southerly regions as well as to the Languedoc, where it alters the bouquet of the wines it is blended with.
